RE: Dodge 2500 Diesel or Gas for me?

He is right about working the Dodge. I am a Dodge guy, owned a 1999 Cummins for 190,000 miles and then bought an 06 dually. My Dodge dealer shop foreman says that you must work them ( the 08's that is) hard or the Service Engine light comes on and on a weekly basis. The turbo soots up and that is a problem that sends the light on. Trucks they have sold that are worked HARD on a DAILY BASIS never have a check engine light come on and never have problems. Guys like masons, landscapers, etc who really work the truck hard, they should own a 08 Cummins. My friend has an 08 Cummins and drives 35 minutes to work ecah way at highway speeds......his light is on every week. Now the dealer has replaced the turbo...it is all about soot. Soot that used to go out your tailpipe now gets recirculated into your engine. Working it hard there are no problems, but driving it like you said, well it is a suicide trip......you will always be at the dealer.

RE: Heat in bathroom

I installed a wall mounted 24" electric baseboard heater controlled by a 120 volt line voltage wall mounted thermostat. I bought a 220 volt baseboard heater unit and of coarse feed it 120 volts.....that way it never gets too hot that may cause a skin burn.

RE: I Bought The Tow Vehicle, Now I Need The 5th Wheel.

Both Chevy and Dodge told me in 2006 I had to buy a dually for my RV. My 06 Hitchhiker was 34.5 feet long and the pin weight is 2350 lbs....gross trailer weight is 14,900. The truck is an auto w/ 3:73 rear. The truck empty is about 7200, add the rv at 14,900 and you have 22,100....and the truck's max gcvw is 22,000. Add people, firewood, hitch weight, aux fuel tank, you get the picture by now. Pulling was not the issue, it was gcvw. I doubt our rv will ever weight 14,900.........but add that shortcoming in people, firewood, aux fuel tank, hitch, kingpin tripod, etc....who knows. I like the dually for many reasons. Only 1 downside, just 1: no automatic car washes! Don't listen to dually bs: hard to park/ not. Bad in snow, not. It's a 4x4, I go into very muddy jobsites and deep snow and have never come close to being stuck. If you want one, for whatever reason, get it. Do not Don't get it because of internet voodoo guys complaining about duallies...boohoo.

Diesel in Mrytle Beach SC?

We are heading to Myrtle Beach and we keep reading about fuel shortages, and now we hear Charlotte has been having issues. Anybody know for sure about MB SC?

RE: Robin Hill CG - Not any more......(semi long)

We agree. We went there twice a season with our 34' 5vr. We always stayed along the back, there was a huge field behind us. Since this puke corporation took over they are all now perm. sites. They told us where we could RV in this campground....I said are you nuts? A 34' fifth wheel in these tiny sites? Good-friggin-bye !

Exterior fiberglass color choices

While we are very happy with our 2006 Hitchhiker, we occasionally notice a unit that is not white. In Hershey PA we saw a classy 5vr in maroon or burgundy, looked like a million bucks. White fiberglass is blah, no matter how many gory vinyl graphics are installed. I assume 99% are white because white must be cheaper. Who makes 5vrs in colors?

You can't go wrong, our 2006 DA 32.5 CKQG has been a dream.....to own, to tow, and to live in.

RE: Water Pump losing prime

SAME HERE. I hear what you are saying, I came back and my pump was running for a long time, it was very warm. It won't prime the pump unless you open a faucet. It can't put water in a line that is filled with air, you must relieve the air by way of opening a faucet anywhere in the system. Mt pressure switch did detect low pressure, and the pump did start....and ran forever until I came back and opened up a faucet. The air was evacuated and the pump slowly caught prime and all was well. Then of coarse later we had the same problem...........

Water Pump losing prime

My 2006 Hitchhiker 5vr has a SHURFLO 5.7 pump. Into our 2nd year now the pump loses prime, and if you don't use the water every 30 minutes or so you must wait for water. You can hear the pump running, then you can see a small stream of water start as you hear the pump picking up the prime. Once it is primed it works great. It has a strainer ahead of the pump, then into a SHURFLO accumulator tank. I suspect the water must be backfeeding into the water tank. I have been told that A) An internal check valve may be damaged or have debris whereas it can't close completely...allowing the water to backflow into the tank B) The water pump is located too high above the water tank. I can't help for that, it was built that the pump is about 3' above the floor, and the tank is below the floor in the heated/enclosed underbelly. Besides, if it were mounted too high, why would it work great once the pump reprimes itself. C) REGARDLESS, install 1/2" checkvalve to prevent water from going back into tank. HOWEVER I am told that a checkvalve won't work because the pump isn't strong enough to overcome the spring that keeps the check valve closed. Am told that the pumps are very weak and installing a checkvalve inserts too much flow resistance like a water filter would do. PLEASE HELP. I am leaning towards the checkvalve, I read a past post that someone did that and the problem went away.

RE: south from Maryland to Myrtle Beach SC

Our Dodge Dually pulling our 35' Nuwa Hitchhiker takes a different route from our home in Pennsylvania. We get off RT 95 at South of the Border and take Rt 501 straight into MB. Some 2 lane, some 4 lane, a few traffic lights but wouldn't take any other way............until they build a 4 lane in the year what...2076?

RE: Full 30# propane tank, nothing comes out!

I have found out the following: A) Like a poster said, nothing comes out with no appliance connected. B) I have used these tanks for 2 years now. C) It seems that BOTH tank valves must be open to get gas pressure. The red indicator stays red (autochangeover thing) until both tanks are open, then the indicator cahnges to green. That being said, please knwo that I had 3 gas burners operating well. You could here the gas leaving the tanks. When I closed the tank that I was NOT drawing from, the gas burners ran out of gas. I say again: The black leaver was pointing towards the tank I was drawing from, and I turned OFF the AUX tank, and the gas burners ran out of gas. The indicator turned red. I can't figure it out, and all this AFTER I assumed the $45 auto-changer regulator went bad and I bought a new one! Now I have a spare I will probably never use.

RE: Leaving pets in the RV

We leave our BICHON in our 5vr for up to maybe up to 6 hours. I leave a big note in the window that says: EMERGENCY: Call XXX-555-1212 I hope somebody would call us if they here our dog barking...which is not normal. I am changing the sign this year to say there is a pet inside. I am hoping that if somebody hears a smoke detector going off or sees smoke coming out of the 5vr they will break the door to save our pet.

RE: No-dually fivers

Both the Chevy and Dodge dealers said I needed a dually for my 14,900 fifth wheel with a pin weight of 2200. Remember The LISTED pin weight is when you are empty. Load the 5vr, add firewood, a hitch, 60 gallon aux diesel tank...... I know a 2500 or a 3500 SRW will pull it, thats a no brainer. But to be legal, go dually. It is my daily driver, never had problems parking, driving on any type of road including snow. It is a 4x4, snow? So what! I love it.........except I wish I had a SRW ONLY for the sake of AUTOMATIC CAR WASHES! baby it's cold outside!

RE: Full 30# propane tank, nothing comes out!

I will have our local LP dealer take a look. What seems to be a bigger issue here is my use of the phrase college puke. Let me first say that "Maybe you should ask your Dr. if Paxil is right for you". Secondly I graduated from Penn State at University Park in 1977. Thirdly that phrase was a line in a Hollywood movie about Thoreau, who once said, "Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify. Henry David Thoreau US Transcendentalist author 1817 - 1862 The movie was how things work fine, then college people in order to justify their jobs change things, sometimes for the worst. Remember Classic Coke? Sorry if my use of this phrase is offensive. Glad to read that not everyone was offended.

Full 30# propane tank, nothing comes out!

My 2006 30# propane tank is filled, but nothing comes out. I removed the tank from my 5vr, and there was that spider white webbing opposite of the gas outlet. I thought I removed it, but still no gas comes out. Must the hose be connected to let gas exit? Is this some kind of new college puke safety thing?

RE: Transfer Tank

Bonzo, I have a 57 gallon steel tank in my truck. I had it Line-X'd to match my bed spray. I use an engine lift to put it in and out of the truck. It has 4 bolts that hold it in the bed. I bought a 12 volt pump from Northern Tool, hose/nozzle, it screwed into the tanks 2" opening at the top. It has a long power wire, I use the alligator clips to the battery for power. It works great. I wanted a tank I could put in and take out. If you want I can email you pics...looks real slick.

RE: Thoughts on CB radios....

I too hate the usual bs vulgar nitwit chatter....but for finding out why you have stopped, and what lane is open it is a fine tool. I keep mine fully squelched so only a very close signal will come through. I want to be able to hear someone trying to tell me I have an issue behind me...flat tire, etc. Because of my limited use, I too have a handheld unit with a through the glass antenna. Can I talk 4 states over? No, and don't want to. I have talked to guys 3-4 miles up the road....good enough for me. I don't want to look at the boxey CB nor a Redneck antenna.

RE: pocono's YOU OWN your site

I was hoping for more news here on this forum. This Saturday we are driving up to the Pocono's...we have 3 parks we want to look at around Gouldsboro, Pa. I have learned via the Internet that quite a few sites that are for sale have dilapidated broken down campers parked on them. They would have to go, heck I would give them away if somebody would take them. Let's see what we learn this weekend.
